AI for Social Media Responses

Utilizing AI for Social Media Engagement

I have found it immensely helpful to employ AI as a first response when encountering memes, questions, or claims on social media. My “go-to” prompt is, “Assess this content for factual accuracy, logical coherence, and testability.” Here are a few reasons why an initial AI response is invaluable when engaging with social media posts:

Setting the Tone

The straightforward and logical response of AIs ensures that those with whom I’m engaging understand that I honestly intend to avoid personal attacks and engage them in a more productive and less emotional tone reflective of rationality. If my interlocutor’s response to my posting of an AI-generated response is of the same rational tone, I am far more inclined to engage them personally.

Comprehensive Analysis

AIs are generally quite comprehensive. I often overlook important factors on one side or the other, but AIs fail in this respect far less than humans. Their ability to consider various perspectives and details makes them reliable for initial assessments.

Objectivity and Logical Consistency

AIs tend toward objectivity and avoid illogical reasoning. They will reverse their opinions if rigorously exposed to any illogic in their positions, which is becoming increasingly rare as they mature. This commitment to logic and consistency provides a robust foundation for discussions.

Adherence to Convention

Due to the high volume and comprehensiveness of their training data, AI responses reflect average rational human responses. While the average human response may sometimes be illogical, AI will concede points when countered with logically rigorous rebuttals, maintaining a standard of rational discourse.

Providing Credences

AI attempts to provide credences instead of making dogmatic claims. They normally apply appropriate hedging and indicate the degree of their certainty upon further prompting, offering a nuanced perspective that acknowledges uncertainty.

Framework for Further Discussions

AI responses serve as excellent springboards for further human-to-human dialogue. They can structure arguments syllogistically if asked, allowing humans to retain focus on central issues and avoid irrelevant, tangential arguments.

Citing Relevant Sources

AIs can cite relevant sources and respond with citations for their claims whenever asked. This allows humans to easily conduct a deeper dive into the topic, promoting informed discussions based on reliable information.

Adapting to Different Audiences

AIs can modify their register, rephrasing responses to match the vocabulary, conceptualization, and abstraction skills of nearly any age group. This adaptability makes AI a versatile tool for engaging with diverse audiences on social media.

Time Efficiency

AI responses save time by quickly generating responses to social media claims that are often muddled with false assumptions. An AI can swiftly address and shut down nonsense, preventing the spread of misinformation that may mislead unschooled minds.

Encouragement to Use AI

For these reasons, I strongly encourage everyone to actively employ AIs in their social media engagements. AI provides a valuable tool for ensuring factual accuracy, logical coherence, and productive discussions, making social media interactions more rational and constructive.

Phil Stilwell

Phil picked up a BA in Philosophy a couple of decades ago. After his MA in Education, he took a 23-year break from reality in Tokyo. He occasionally teaches philosophy and critical thinking courses in university and industry. He is joined here by ChatGPT, GEMINI, CLAUDE, and occasionally Copilot, Perplexity, and Grok, his far more intelligent AI friends. The seven of them discuss and debate a wide variety of philosophical topics I think you’ll enjoy.

Phil curates the content and guides the discussion, primarily through questions. At times there are disagreements, and you may find the banter interesting.
